Striking Women
Striking Women is a website based around the research of Dr Sundari Anitha and Professor Ruth Pearson. It explores the struggles of South Asian women in the UK Labour Market. In particular the project looks at the industrial disputes in Grunwick and Gate Gourmet.
This site covers a range of issues that are covered in the History, Citizenship and Geography curriculum’s. With easy to use and extremely well planned activities, the site provides resources on four key issues: Migration, Women and Work, Rights and Responsibilities and Industrial Disputes.
The website uses a comic strip to visualise the story of two women. Alongside contextual information and historical information relating to the four issues, it makes complex issues quite accessible for KS3/4 learners.
Striking Women offers a mobile exhibition which can be booked and printed copies of the project are available from the authors of the website.
