The Greatest Research Question for Writing a History Essay

History is one of the main subjects at the university and students often have to write research papers specifically on history. First, let’s define what research work is? A student in his/her research must discover something new that no one knew before him/her or present a new view of the problem. The study is a clear answer to the question posed by the researcher, i.e. achieves a certain goal. The next difficulty, as a rule, consists of the very statement of the question. Fortunately, we want to offer you one of the best research questions for history essays.

To Begin with…

First of all, it should be said that strict adherence to the required format and careful study of the assignment itself can help you a lot. In order to understand what the professors want from you, read EVERYTHING that is written in the assignment. Do not hurry! From my own experience, I can say that there is a very high probability of missing key points and requirements after first reading the topics for the essay. Also, if something does not work out for you, do not forget that now there are research proposal papers for sale, which are of high quality and will free you from writing.

Which Research Question is Better to Choose?

The research question should be specific enough. For example, a great question would be “Reasons for the Fall of the Roman Empire: Internal and External Factors.” If you take this question as a basis, then you need to follow a certain structure.

Describe the External En emies of the Empire

One of the versions relates to the death of the Roman Empire to 410 AD, when the Gothic tribes under the leadership of Alaric invaded the territory of Rome. The tribes of the Goths were Christians, so they did not commit massacres and did not destroy buildings, but only robbed, took out jewellery, removed valuable jewellery from buildings.

According to the second version, Rome was destroyed to its foundations later, in 476, by the leader of the barbarian Germanic tribe Heruli Odoacer, who forced the young Romulus Augustus to abdicate the throne of the last emperor of Rome.

Describe Internal Factors

The increase in taxes affected the population’s ability to pay. Small landowners began to ask for protection from large owners, which finally ruined them and created a layer of large feudal lords.

The economic downturn has caused a wave of indignation in the country. There was a demographic crisis in the empire – the death rate rose and the birth rate fell. The situation in the country was improved by the policy of allowing barbarians to settle in the border territories of the empire, provided that they take an oath to defend their new homeland but it destroyed society from the inside.

Conduct a Critical Analysis

The Roman Empire was a huge state, even by today’s standards, with a complex system of government and developed infrastructure. Its fall, or rather, the situation when Roman state institutions and infrastructure ceased to function in the western part of the Roman world and experienced a serious shock in the eastern, was the result of many reasons. The pressure on the border exacerbated the processes that were going on within the empire itself, worsening the situation in the economy and social sphere. The great migration of peoples, caused by incl. and climatic reasons led to the fact that whole peoples began to withdraw from their homes and seek happiness in new lands, which could not but affect the settled life of the Roman provinces – at first bordering, and then internal.

Make a Conclusion

When the Roman Empire collapsed, many cultural and scientific achievements were lost. Europeans had to spend many centuries to reach those heights again in construction, medicine, and mathematics. Christians destroyed cultural monuments, carefully guarded for centuries, as a relic of godless paganism. The fall of the Roman Empire took place. The Western Roman Empire disappeared, but small Germanic kingdoms emerged. Rome fell, which means that the era of antiquity is over. A new history began – the  history of the Middle Ages.

Writing an essay on history is not as difficult and complicated as it seems at first glance. The most important thing is to put the question correctly and answer it throughout the paper.
