The Coal Mines (Minimum Wages) Act was passed in response to a national strike by miners. The Act moved to prevent further industrial rest. Regional Boards of Trade would be responsible for deciding a minimum wage for underground workers in their area. Employers would then be bound by law to pay this minimum wage. The Board was designed to take into account the views of both the employers and the miners.<\/p>\n
